Pineville’s Only Nonprofit Launches “The Pineville 1,000” to Sustain Community Services Amid Federal and Foundation Funding Cuts

Women-founded nonprofit serving the 28134 zip code calls on 1,000 local businesses to become Community Partners at $200 — a $200,000 campaign to keep critical services running in 2026

PINEVILLE, NC — Pineville Neighbors Place (PNP), the only nonprofit in Pineville providing crisis financial assistance, food, and essentials to residents of the 28134 zip code, today announced the launch of “The Pineville 1,000,” a capital campaign to engage 1,000 local businesses as Community Partners before the end of 2026. The campaign aims to raise $200,000 to sustain PNP’s operations as the organization faces significant cuts from both federal and foundation funding sources.

Founded in 2016 by three Pineville women — Jane Shutt, Mary Jo Patterson, and Kathryn Jenkins — PNP is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The organization remains women-led and has served its community without interruption for a decade, distributing over 530,000 pounds of food and potatoes, providing $2.7 million in direct financial assistance, and filling more than 8,400 backpacks with school supplies for local children.

“We have been neighbors helping neighbors for 10 wonderful years. But the funding landscape has changed dramatically, and we need Pineville’s business community to stand with us now. The Pineville 1,000 is our answer — a community-funded future for a community-built organization.”

— Nancy Healey, Board Chair, Pineville Neighbors Place

Campaign Details

The Pineville 1,000 has a goal of 1,000 business Community Partners at $200 each, totaling $200,000. Businesses seeking deeper community impact may give at the Founding Neighbor level at $1,000. The two giving tiers are:

Community Partner — $200: Business is named on PNP’s website, receives a digital Community Partner badge for use on their own website and social media, is featured in PNP’s newsletter, and receives a shout out on PNP’s Instagram and Facebook pages.

Founding Neighbor — $1,000: Everything in Community Partner, plus prominent logo placement on PNP’s website for the full year, a dedicated spotlight video posted to PNP’s Instagram, named recognition at PNP’s events and an impact report.

The campaign runs through December 2026, with a Giving Tuesday push planned for November. Businesses can join at pinevilleneighbors.org or by contacting PNP directly at board_chair@pinevilleneighbors.org or (704) 972-8722.

Ten Years of Impact in Pineville

Since its founding in 2016, Pineville Neighbors Place has delivered the following impact entirely within the 28134 zip code and to students at Pineville and Sterling Elementary schools:

$2.7 million+ in direct financial assistance provided

20,000+ people housed and stabilized

181,000 lbs of food distributed through the PNP food pantry and fresh produce programs

350,000 lbs of potatoes distributed through the annual Potato Drop program

8,400+ backpacks filled with school supplies given to local students

1,700+ children served through SWAC and Angel Tree holiday gift programs

PNP holds a 2025 Platinum rating from Candid (GuideStar), the highest level of nonprofit transparency available, and is a member of the Pineville NC Chamber of Commerce. The organization is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN: 81-3170672). Every dollar donated remains in the Pineville community.

Funding Context

Like many nonprofits serving low-income communities, Pineville Neighbors Place relies on a combination of government grants and private foundation funding alongside individual and business donations. In 2026, simultaneous cuts to both federal and foundation funding streams have created a critical gap that the organization is working to close through direct community support.

“Pineville is a growing, thriving community — and there are still families here who are one setback away from losing their housing or going without food,” said Nancy Healey, Board Chair. “Approximately 13% of Pineville’s population lives at or below the poverty level. The need has not gone away, it has grown. The Pineville 1,000 is our way of asking our community to own this mission with us.”
